How to Apply Simple Syrups to cakes, cupcakes, and bundt cakes

This may seem intimidating and just another thing on your list to do to prepare a dessert, but trust me IT’S WORTH IT. I highly recommend using syrups for gluten free cakes to prevent them from getting too dry, but I also use them for regular cakes.

Here’s how to do it:

Cakes;

Prepare your syrup, and make sure that your cake is still in the pan and a little warm but not hot. Same with the syrup, warm but not too hot. Then poke some holes with a toothpick into your cake and, using a butter brush or a food-safe brush, brush the syrup lightly onto the cake. Only until it is slightly wet, don’t overdo it because then the cake will be way too wet and moist. After the cake is cool and no longer wet to the touch, around 1-2 hours, carefully turn them out of their pans and assemble and frost.

Cupcakes;

Prepare your syrup, and make sure that your cupcakes are not too hot, they can still be in the pan, but I don’t advise it, but still warm. If/When you take your cupcakes out of the pan, make sure that they had a least 10 minutes to cool off in the pan. Same with the syrup, warm but not too hot. Then poke some holes with a toothpick into the cupcakes and, using a butter brush or a food-safe brush, brush the syrup lightly onto the cupcakes. Only until they are slightly wet, don’t overdo it because the syrup will leak through the liners and make them soggy. After they are cool and no longer wet to the touch, around 1-2 hours, you can frost them.

Bundt cakes;

Prepare your syrup. When your bundt cake comes out of the oven, let it cool in the pan for around 10 minutes then invert it onto a cooling rack. While the cake is still warm, poke some holes into the bundt cake with a skewer all over. Brush the syrup lightly on using a butter brush or food-safe brush, don’t overdo it as it will result in a soggy cake. Try to do some holes in the sides, not going into the side but going down (from the top) into the side if that makes sense! After the bundt cake is cool and no longer wet to the touch, about an hour, you may drizzle glaze, or do whatever you need to do to get it ready!
