Brigadeiros

A Brazilian Brigadeiro is a small, rich chocolate dessert, kind of like a truffle. It’s very good, and only consists of 4 ingredients! Even though it looks like a truffle, it tastes nothing of the sort. A brigadeiro is a little chewy, not like candy, and very rich, and covered in chocolate sprinkles! I had these for the first time when I was a participant in 4 h, in my old state, and we were doing a project on Brazil, our group didn’t do food but we got to look at other booths. And, of course, one group did do food, and they had these chocolatey delicacies. When I bit into it I knew that I HAD to look these things up so I could make them at home!

INGREDIENTS

  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Chocolate sprinkles (for rolling in)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Grease a plate with butter. Set aside.
  2. In a pan, add the condensed milk, chocolate and butter.
  3. On a medium-low heat, for about 10 to 15 minutes, keep stirring until the mixture separates from the pan. If you scrape it with the spoon, the bottom of the pan will be seen clearly.
  4. Transfer to the greased plate and spread it. Let it cool completely.
  5. With butter-greased hands, shape these into small balls. Roll them in chocolate (or colored) sprinkles. Repeat this with the remaining mix.

Hope you enjoy! (You will, trust me!)
