More about me

Hi!  Welcome to The Dairy Free Daughter! My name is Addison, I’m 16 years old and I live in Central Illinois. From May of 2019 to April of 2021 me and my family were missionaries in a country in Europe named Hungary. My dad served there as pastor until we found someone to take over. Now we have moved back to America, and serve at a church in Central Illinois. Other than baking, I love to read (especially Dystopian novels), write, and roller blade among many other hobbies. I have recently started a homemade cupcake and cookies business called ‘Pretty Sweet’, delivering around where I live. I have 3 younger sisters: Sophie is 14, Ruby is 13 and Phoebe is 11. We also have an orange Tabby cat named Toby, and a kitten named Boba (like the tea;).

Boba and Toby cuddling together like good brothers 🙂

If you have an allergy, you probably know the struggle with foods, does it contain______?  Or does it not contain_______?  THAT is the question.  And don’t even get me started on ‘May Contain_______?

My mom has a gluten and soy allergy and me and one of my sisters has a dairy allergy, so it’s hard when it comes to baked goods.  I like to bake allergy friendly desserts, and occasionally a savory dish or two.  Gluten and milk allergies are my normal, but I’m sure I could do more like sugar, peanuts and eggs.  Where I live there aren’t a lot of Dairy Free products, but more Lactose Free and Vegan. So, I do some Vegan baking also, if you’re Vegan you should check out my Crazy Cakes!  In this blog I will hopefully be posting once a month. And I will be helping with the struggles of baking/cooking with an allergy like my mother’s and mine.  I’ve been baking since I can remember; baking and frosting sugar cookies with my Nana for Christmas, bake sales with the neighbors and even my own birthday cake! But I wasn’t really serious about it till I was 11 or 12, when I lived in Hungary we were only a couple blocks away from an AMAZING baking supply store called ‘Cukorvirag’, which in Hungarian means ‘Sugarflower’. Every Sunday around 3pm we would go to church, and I would always bake a sweet treat for after the service! Of course near the end that had to stop because of Covid-19, however I did start handing out pre-wrapped desserts like cookies, brownies, or muffins.

Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely OBSESSED with baking, but…. Over this past summer of 2022, I realized that baking is not my whole life. It is my creative outlet and a fun hobby, but I don’t aspire to become a world-renowned pastry chef or appear on baking competitions. I realized that while I love baking, my favorite part is when people’s faces light up while eating my creation. I just LOVE making people happy:). This summer I also attended a youth retreat with my church, it was very moving and helped me discover my real passion. Serving others. Specifically helping those in need and fighting against social injustice, world hunger, and poverty through Christ. That sounds huge and impossible, but one person CAN make a difference. I don’t know what the future holds for me, that’s God’s plan, but I do know that I can help others using my gifts. Awhile ago, spring of 2022, me and a friend hosted a bake sale and raised almost 500$ for a wonderful organization called wunders.

Someday I might like to work for a non-profit organization and travel all over the world, but for now, here is The Dairy Free Daughter!
